語学・辞書・学習参考書 A Latin Dictionary by Lewis and Shortの詳細情報
A Latin Dictionary by Charlton T. Lewis and Charles Short (commonly called “Lewis & Short”) is a comprehensive, scholarly Latin–English dictionary first published in 1879. Drawing heavily on classical sources from Plautus through the early medieval period, it provides detailed definitions, etymologies, examples of usage, and citations from Latin literature. Although based on earlier German philological work (notably the dictionary of Freund), Lewis & Short expanded and revised the material extensively, making it one of the most influential reference works for students and scholars of Classical Latin. Despite occasional inconsistencies and its Victorian-era organization, it remains a foundational tool for translating and interpreting Latin texts. This Edition 1969Good Vintage condition.
